Hi,

Looking for your advice pleco experts, I recently (4 days) got sailfin and gold nugget for my 180 gal tank, both 2'' in size. Sailfin adapted quickly, eats well, hides in the driftwood etc. but gold nugget does not seem to be well. I tried to feed both with algae pellets.Gold nugget sits on the walls close to aeration or heater and does not seem to eat. I'm thinking to try feeding them with bloodworms and may be isolating the sailfin for some time. What do you think?

Thanks,

Eventually that sailfin is going to greatly outgrow the gold nugget and, depending on the aggressiveness of the larger fish, it may be a good option to separate. I've never kept a gold nugget that wasn't the most aggressive eater in the tank, though. Blood worms and brine shrimp are always effective temptations for baryancistrus.

thanks for the tip. I have separated the sailfin temporarily and added some bloodworms to the bottom feeder. Will see tomorrow if gold nugget would find and eat them.

Could be a sign of soon to be death. Or not enough oxygen in the water or low quality water. Gold nuggets are very sensitive so make sure to keep very clean water.

Gold nuggets require specialized conditions. They are mostly vegatable feeders and detrus feeder of biofilm. They require strong current and high levels of DO and very clean pristine water conditions. They really are a difficult fish to keep in a community tank.
