Recently I upsized my 46 gallon tank to a 90 gallon - during the swap I found my gold nugget in horrible condition - it was basically colorless and had the majority of it's tail missing! I had realized it hadn't been out for awhile but I had big hollow rocks that it generally stayed in so I wasn't too concerned! - I quickly set my 46 gallon back up and have been treating the water with melafix for the past 5 days and it appears the fish will make a full recovery! My question is what to do now? If I reintroduce the gold nugget into the cichlid tank is it likley to have the same trouble? There are currently 4 other fish in the tank: fusco, red empress, yellow lab, and a ice blue zebra. I would appreciate any advice!
additional info: ph - 7.4, water temp 80, feeding cucumber and small pieces of shrimp

I wouldn't try mixing him with those cichlids if I were you.

If they already picked on it they might do it again. Now that you have a bigger tank, you can increase the # of cichlids. That might redirect some aggression away from the pleco.

I will be wondering about the water conditions when both fish excrete heavy amounts of wastes.

thanks for the feed back! - My plan is to look for a pair of smaller fish to share the 46 gallon with the gold nugget!
Thanks again!

Pearl gouramis or simply a shoal of tetras or rasboras.
