IN YOUR HEAD
would my gold nugget L018 i think, work in a 55gal with african cichlids and a mix of small and large rock for substraite. i have a large common in with them now it has out grown the tank and i was thinking about putting it in my big tank with my aro(were my gold nugget is now) i tryed before to put them together and the common picked on the nugget. the nugget is 4" now. i like the black sand in my big tank and with how it looks with the nugget. does the L018 need sand? should i change the rocks to sand for it to work? will the change even work?

I dont understand this. You have a common plec which has outgrown your 55, and are asking about a golden nugget - which grows to the same size as a common or more? 55 Is a little on the small side for either though really! It can be done but it is tight (and in terms of waste when they are huge - difficult). Certainly 2 plecs of this nature shouldn't really be in the same tan k unless it is massive. Plecs don't "need" sand really.

you want to move the bigger plec into a bigger tank?
and the smaller plec into the smaller tank?

by all means....go ahead

I dont think the GN will care about sand or not. Just needs hiding places in the rock and wood....and a meaty diet

GNs do get big...but in general do not get as big as commons. Ive seen pics of some very large commons....I think they also take much longer to grow big than commons so your 4" would be fine in a 55g for awhile.

My GNs are in a bare bottom tank with some slate caves and wood and they do fine.

i heard that gns get only 10" max. how big do they get? do commons eat live plants? this is all new to me i have done the rookie thing in the past "just stuck a common in the tank and what happens... happens" now i want to get serious with the fish. my common is 14"-15" now at least. and for a meaty deit? my gn eats hikari food sticks that sink, ghost shrimp, pices of night crawler, pices of fish, and what ever else the other fish don't eat. i do have wood in both tanks. i would be putting caves in the 55 for the gn if i do put it in there.
