What creates this yellow or gold base to some flowerhorns? I would eventually like to breed some gold based Kamfas for myself. Just wonering what fish I would need to spawn a Kamfa or ZZ to acheive this.

Why don't you do a little research and then think about it. The answers are all out there. Gold base is just another way to say fader. My advice to you is be a keeper first, then a breeder. Wanting to breed a fish you haven't even kept yet is working backwards not forwards. It is a natural progression through the hobby that you eventually will breed your fish.

I've started to keep them just looking for sometime down the line I understand I need way more experience. I guess I'm somewhat confused with what I thought gold and yellow base actually mean. What I am talking about is RD or kamfa with yellow or I guess gold colored faces not faders. I've read a ton of your post on this form and know you know what you're talking about with breeding.

The gold base sub label of fh encompasses even stuff like red texas. It has pretty much become the American Standard to just call them faders though because faders can appear in many strains of fh and labeling something as just a gold base fh is not as accurate as saying "faded zz red dragon" if you catch my drift. Base color can vary a great deal on fish from even the same strain and it is not uncommon to have faces and bellies be yellow or gold it just depends on the fish. I'm sure you will make a good breeder if you keep the interest in your fish.

Yeah I'm picking up what you're putting down. I just didn't know if that yellow base color was specifically bred or just something random. With all the research I've done on this forum and another Flowerhorn forum I've come across some really nice kamfa and Rd with yellow faces and I would love to own a yellow faced showpiece in the future.

Just keep looking you will find them. I have found yellow to be the most common occurring color with faders at least. Non fader base color having a yellow face will just be a roll of the dice but again they are fairly common. Maybe more obvious in large adult fishes.
