I have a single Gold P. growing out in a 29gal. He's not even a full inch yet. Two questions: How big should I let him get in the current tank and what size tank would be my end game for him. Just the single fish. I keep my tanks well maintained with good sized weekly water changes. I guess what I'm getting at is what is the smallest tank I can look for. I was told a 40 breeder would work but I want more feedback on that. Thanks in advance.

I think this particular species is supposed to get 14"

Definitely isn't going to get 14".IMO if it between a 40gal n a 55gal I'd go with 40gal, way better ft print.55gal are narrow.personally I'd go with a 75gal.tons of room for 1 with room for more later when you want more.

@ that small of a size a positive ID on the fish is probably impossible. Their are several types of Piranha refered to as "gold" however without an ID it's not fesible to guess at the fishes future needs. Give it a few months - post pics ask again.

And good luck with seahorses in 20gal.

agreed. Being only an inch now you will have a while before you even need to upgrade.

75>40B>55

Also depending on species, seahorses are fine in a 20g if you (otherone) are implying they wont be ok. People keep dwarf seahorses in tanks like 2.5g fine

I've been planning the seahorse tank for months now. I'll get a couple ponies and a pipe for it. I'm stoked about that. I'll give it another inch or so and get an ID on it. Either way I know I have a while till it needs an upgrade. Golds are relatively slow growers from what I've read.
