SO, I got this piranha as a gift, but my boyfriend isn’t setting up his new tank for awhile. He has a large black piranha in a 120 gal and an unidentified little guy in a 20 gal (please excuse my terminology; I’m new with the piranhas). I have him in a small 10gal, but I thought it was going to be a really temporary thing, like a holding place until I surprised him with it. It is clearly not going to work for much longer. He looks nervous and runs into the glass a lot. He seems aggressive. He is eating though.

I have a 55gal community tank of a large blood parrot and blue rams so I definitely can’t put him in there.

Any suggestions how I might safely and quickly get a larger set up to transfer him without totally stressing him out? :screwy:

No way I want to kill him. He cost me $150! Plus he’s pretty cool.

Buy an established tank off craigslist, and make sure to keep the filter media and gravel wet. This way you shouldn't have to cycle the tank.

Howdy,

Put the parrot and the rams into the 10 gal and the piranha into the 55gal.

I'd just break the news to him. That was a thoughtful gift and I'm sure he'd still be surprised once he see's it. If he's anything like any of us other fish keepers, then he wouldn't want to wait another minute to get the tank setup and cycled. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately doesn't look like it's going to work out. I guess pets don't always make the best gifts.

Leave him in the 10 gallon.. it cant hurt more then it already has.. most smaller piranha tend to be skittish but hes eating which is a good thing.. just keep an eye on the water parameters..

where are you located? and what specie of piranha is it that cost you $150

He's going to just have to hang out in the 10gal for now, but he seems actually a lot better; more adjusted and eating good.

I put an ad up on Craigslist (Twin Cities) to see if I get any offers for him. So, if anyone is interested, look there. Also, I haven't a clue on how you go about shipping a fish, esp a piranha so it will have to be local. :newbie:
Thanks...
