Gold as in Spilo or Rhom??

I owned a couple gold spilos for a while back in the day (6'' or so) when they were called gibbus. Mine were a little more aggressive than reds, but nothing to write home about. But an extremely beautiful fish.

yea i was talking about a gold spilo not a rhom. i know they are not aggresive like a elongatus or a irritans but i just wanted to know like on a scale from 1-10. i had rb's and i had regular cichlids that were more aggressive then them. i appreciate your time and info and yes they do grow to be one of the most beautiful piranhas.

its gonna depend on the individual fish and thats really all there is to it- he may be aggressive, he may be a wuss--- you wont know until you get him and hes had a chance to get comfy in his new home---- so basically, cross your fingers-

Spilos are Serrasalmus so the problem will mainly consist of fin niping and generelly stressing the other fish..

if it is to be kept alone, it is a wonderfull fish!

if the gold is anything like my sanchezi he wont be too aggressive, but they are def. one of the most pleasing to the eye.

This is the right answer for every question regarding a piranha's aggression. You may hear from people that a certain species is full of killers, but really it's all the same. Even within an individual fish it's personality can change from day to day, chasing fingers and tearing into anything you drop in and then hiding in a corner the next.

IME with piranhas it ultimately comes up to the individual fish. However, again IME, Sanchezi and spilos as a species tend to have more aggressive individuals.

Remember though BE PATIENT! It took my insanely aggressive S. Macualatus MONTHS before he came out of his shell.
