So am i right in the fact that gold saum is not the same as a true terror?

ive been told that green terror actually is more of a sum up of three different species of fish.

if thats the case what kind of fish is in my tank?

yeah there are three species that have the common name of "Green terror" which one is "true" or not is really up for debate as what some refer to as the "true" GT is the actual aquidens rivulatus but this fish is actually extremely rare in the hobby and you would have to specially order one from a reputable source to get one, therefore some people think its weird to call them "true GT" since GT is a common name and most people actually think of a Gold Saum when they hear the name Green Terror, then there are also silver/white saums that are also referred to as GTs. most likely if you got your GT from a lfs and he has red/orange fin trimming then it is a Gold Saum but its not incorrect to still call him a GT

this old question...

in a nutshell, it is more accurate to refer to rivulatus as the original green terror. There are 3 fish currently referred to as green terror (rivulatus, gold and silve saum). At one point they thought it was variations of the same fish but rivulatus has some distinct differences from the other two, mainly the scales.

So your gold saum is a green terror. And I might add an awesome fish!

The common name of a gold saum is Green Terror Cichlid

Calling it a "false" green terror is stupid. It's a common name, and by definition the fish is what people commonly call it.

I think the main differences to point out is the True GT has green scales with a darker outline and the Gold Saum has dark scales with a Green outline..

I do want to point out that "false" isn't really a negative word here. It's only meant to say that this fish is not the same as the one originally named "green terror". Quite common in nomenclature.

Ah, but the new scientific papers on Anidoacara changes all of this now though. While the saums are still undescribed, the fish pictured in the Rapps photos is now know as Anidoacara stalsbergi ... with the real rivulatus yet to be imported into the hobby (and it does NOT have the reverse pattern of the A. stalsbergi, but the standard 'saum' pattern).

All three fish are still called Green Terror via common name though, so there is no 'fake green terror.'

Which one of these are notorious for "Stringy Poo"? I have never raised one but on many threads I have read a lot of comments about GTs having this problem. Is this a problem for all species known by this name?
