Around 3.5-4". just picked him/her up. Very active and aggressive. Leaning towards female, but would like some thoughts.

Man I am usually pretty decent at just guessing it right away. But this GT could kinda go either way. Do you have any other pics? I would lean female myself but if you could post couple more pics it would help.

I will try to get a better pic this weekend. The more I look at it, the more I think it might be male. I definitely notice the dorsal/anal fins developing extensions as well as quite a bit of reticulation/color on the fins. It's still pretty small @ 3.5"

I suspect male, which is currently in the process of developing the longer fins or fin extensions because of the description of the current length of the fish. Although this length seems to be at the critical point in which the male and female characteristics tend to become more apparent. The fish also seems to be fairly bright "metallic-green" and not the typical drab olive-green color mostly exhibited in the females. I hope this helps! :)

The longer fins say male while the lack of nuchal hump developing says female.

Why do people constantly think that just because a saum doesn't have a nuchal hump that it is female? This isn't accurate, a lot of male saums don't. I'm going to say male because I see the start of a trailer on the dorsal fin, but unless I saw it flared that could mean nothing too. Definitely speculative.

I agree with you because my nine and a half inch male never had a pronounced hump on his head, and I have also seen many other males that do not have the hump. My male was also part of a breeding pair, so I suspect the hump trait just depends on the particular genetics of the fish.
