Hi all, firstly, I understand somewhat the differences between the 3 GTs:
- A. stalsbergi (true GT, white edging, smaller)
- A.blombergi (similar to stalsbergi but different scale coloration)\
- A.rivulatus (gold edging, bigger)
from reading online.

I don't really want to get into debates about nomenclature and classifications. It's a moot point for me as the only one available to me is A.Rivulatus aka Gold saum (gold edged fins)

My question is, I have read conflicting reports on GT aggression, probably because of the name being applied to 3 different fish with probably different temperaments. I have read that Stalsbergi, the original, true GT, is highly aggressive, thus the name. How about Rivulatus though? I have read that it is undeserving of the "terror" name?

I would like to keep one in a largely SA (sl. acidic, soft) cichlid tank with one each of oscar, gold severum, heckelii, ellioti, electric blue acara, red forest jewel.

Thanks.

Depends on the individual fish, some laid back, some down right nasty.
Tank size will also have a big role in how each fish behaves.
Generally they are more peaceful than stalsbergi, often thought of as the real GT, when actually rivulatus was the original fish by this name.

Yes, tank size is basically 180G (6x2x2) with many flower pots/caves and fake plants to break line of sight. Biggest will be the oscar then the GT I guess. Also thinking of polleni but have read conflicting reports about their aggression too. GT will be most aggressive fish in the tank, but I am counting on my bigger O to keep him in line. I'm hoping the others are probably small and peaceful enough that he doesn't feel threatened/challenged and doesn't even stoop to acknowledge them.

I think there's just a large range on personality from them. My Bleekeri (basically same as Polleni) was one of my favorite. Highly recommend them.

I've had many rivulatus and two stalsbergi. There's a huge difference in aggression between these two imo. This has many factors obviously. Tank size, tank mates, what size they were introduced to each other, and so on. The rivulatus is boss but not a killer imo. I find these guys to be pretty laid back depending on their mates and how bad their mates want to be boss. My wild caught male stalsbergi is pure killer at 8" now. Hes only gottin along with his female that was introduced at same time and has killed or tried to kill all mates and dithers in the tank. The ones he hasn't killed he kept pinned in a location. I pulled the female a couple months ago (regret) and have not been able to reintroduce her safely yet. The male stalsbergi swims alone in 125g.

You have a very good chance of your stock working Imo, go for it, the oscar will rule no doubt.

thanks. will add the rivulatus +/- polleni last, even after the oscar.

Green Terrors (Saum) are more aggressive toward other GT's from my experience. Never had an aggressive GT in my tank. I would worry more about the electric blue acara getting picked on. The Jewel is most likely going to be your problem child. They are very aggressive for their size. Even my old 10 inch male GT never had issues with other tank mates.
