Gold Saum has Curled Gill??? WTF?

WTF? I just noticed my 2.5 inch Gold Saum has a curled gill.....IDK how to explain and i cant get a good enough pic......here whats happening!....his left gill plate is somewhat curled outward and when he breathes, his left gill sticks out more than the other......It doesnt look like its affecting him or makes him look wierd....Im just wondering can he get any kind of infection with his gill being kinda of opened more than usual?

Often the result of high nitrates and low oxygen. Can't be sure though.

wow...i just got this guy a week ago from petsmart.....will it eventually close as he gets bigger?

btw thats called gill curl. im not sure how to cure it tho
and yes, i know that gill curl sounds ridiculous, but thats what its called

maybe if you have pristine water conditions, good diet and add some melafix, but id post this in the freshwater diseases section to get a better answer on this one.
