Gold saum? Male or female

I'd say it's roughly 3.75- 4" now. In much better shape then when I got it 3 weeks ago....he was a picky eater and his poo seemed a very lil bit white and stringy. I've been giving it food soaked in Epsom salts just in case for the last few days. Surprisingly it either likes the taste of the salt or it's doing something beneficial because he tears those pellets up. It had some fin nip going on when I picked him up also. It's all healed up and I'm curious if fin extensions will grow now.....before the treated pellets he was on a varied diet of blood worms, mysis shrimp, krill, peas, algae wafers intended for my plecos and mostly hilarious cichlid gold as a staple diet.... If it's a male I want to just keep him, if it's a female I'd like to find her a possible mate. That's why I'm so curious.

*Update*

The treatment has worked and my saum is now a ferocious eater...... Waggles at the glass when I come home just like my Oscar used too..... Tip of dorsal fin has grown to a point and anal fin also longer and very pointed......I believe I can say male now. When looking from the side I can see something poking out of his vent area and it is shaped like a tiny candy corn. I've read that males have pointy sex organs and females will just be blunt.........
