so ive placed what i believe to be male and female in a tank together and its been a few weeks and noticed the male has stopped all aggressive chasing and now just follows the female around and shakes his entire body if she pays any attention at all to him.outside of this interaction its just him following her around and he will spread his fins out wide when she goes by,i did have two other saums in with them but had to remove due to increased aggression from this large male towards them so im guessing hes chosen her and now just waiting for her to respond and be ready to breed i guess.hes been cleaning out the flowerpot i put in the tank.have they officially paired? or will it be when she turns dark?

Prior to removing the other Gold Saum did you notice the 2 in the aquarium paired at the time if so then I would say it sounds like what you have stated. Keep your eye on the 2 just in case the female isn't ready and the male gets rough with her. You can seperate them with a divider if needed. Btw the colors of the pair should intensify and breeding tubes will be showing.

If the male was chasing the others off and focuses on the one female then it sounds like he’s made his choice. I personally wait till the pair spawn before moving the others if things aren’t getting too out of hand before that. I don’t consider a couple paired till they have spawned. And they aren’t a “proven pair” till they successfully raise fry. At least that’s my definition of it.

Feed them well so the female can be in the best condition possible before spawning.

i moved them cause the male wasnt really letting them eat, damaging scales, fins type of aggression, chased anything that got near his female

still dont understand what is going on with these 2.female and male hang out together most of the time and he does follow her around the tank and gets as close as possible and she for the most part acts like he isnt there or changes directions while he follows.he does shimmer if she is in the area near him while hes pointed at the ground..im guessing this is some kinda mating thing since all my males seem to do this if their female is present.he dug a few pits in the sand which he mainly hangs out at and sometimes she will end up there as well.she is showing the black horizontal stripe across her body which i read was some kinda signal to males to leave her alone, not sure about that one.still no aggression from either of them, been trying to feed higher protein diet of raw shrimp with the temp turned up a bit to see what ends up happening
