I have a pair of gold sevs who spawn but eggs are never viable.
They were small @first spawn, fresh from a lfs, so their age was questioned and whether they might've been stunted.
but they have grown steadily and resumed spawning at 6 inches or so, current size.
I have watched them spawn & verified a male and female. not 2 females.
Do gold sevs often have egg viability problems? I assume, being man made morph, they are almost as inbred as Super Reds.
I don't care much about fry, but it's a bit sad watching them dutifully guard repeated batches of dead eggs. they're trying new rocks & locations, etc now.
I have 2 younger males, sent as Super Reds but only one is becoming red spotted. don't know if the female would have any luck with one of them. seems like chances would be even slimmer with known Reds in genetic background.
