Gold Severum For Sale at LFS - I Think It's a Convict

A Female Pink Con to be specific, but maybe male? $29.99. I argued with the store manager a bit. Who is right?



I was fairly certain I was correct until I Googled ' Gold Severum'. Looks like they may have some convicts mislabled there, too? I is confused now! Other store employee said it was a Red Devil.

I paid $6.99 for a convict at petsmart because they insisted it was a "turquoise severum" lol

Cacichlids: male you say? I would have guessed female only because of the length of dorsal and anal fins. Though the dorsal looks a bit rotted away. No other fish in tank so I figured there would not be a pink patch on the belly.

Gold Sev above is a true beaut. I think I want one.

Female pink convicts have orange in their belly/fins, much like regular ones. Forget about dorsal/anal fins length... ime all that stuff about male/female CA cichlids having pointed, longer or rounded fins is extremely inaccurate. I haven't been able to determine the sex of any cichlid that way, ever.

Head of sev is more sloped than the pet store pic.
Usually they have more patterning on their head too.

I don't think it's a Sev and if it is $30 is rediculous - average here for green and golds are $7
