Well after a year or more of trying I am prod to say that my Gold Severums are now watching over their first batch of fry!! I am so happy they finally have fry I was staring to think they never would :)

Only 25 or 30 % of the eggs hatched, the others went fungused as usual but they have fry and thats a big step for these two, There are probably 30 to 40 fry in there I guess.

The fry are only three days old and still very small and hard to get a pic of but I have some not bad pics for now and will take more and hopefully better pics as they grow and update this post.
This is as the eggs were almost all hatched 3 days ago.

The Fry!!

Looks like they could be red spotted Severums from the pic, got any other pics of the parents.

No, these 'Super Red Severums' getting around are a chain bred morph of a Gold Severum, which is somewhat a colour morph anyway (They aren't wild). Thats what I can gather anyway, anyone got any information on hold Gold Severums came about? Are they Xanthic or Albino of some sort?

'Standard' Gold Severum Males and some Females have the red facial worm patterns. "Super Reds" are borderline red all over with very dark facial patterns. Note James B.'s females gill plates and cheeks in the second and third photographs, no worms. It's been said a thousand times before but I'll reiterate it again as well, it's not a definite way of sexing them, but it is 'generally' correct. I've got a male without the worm patterns, for example.

Nice job on the spawn what do you plan on doing with the little ones?

Yea I have a super red and a gold. My gold looks alot more yellow than james fish, his seem inbetween.

Wow. Gorgeous fishies. Well done :clap

I just got my jack dempsey's to spawn :headbang2

Those are beautiful sevs james and blue killer I am really enjoying mine!!!

COngrats on the fry....Severums are the M1Abrams tank version of the Angelfish, love em.....Since it is their first spawn, do not interupt them....Try siphoning out half the batch in another week...Leave the other half to the pair, this will bond them more.....

Thanks for the comments every one.
Well a little over 10 days later and I am down to 10 or 12 fry. The parents have been great at looking after them but I on the other hand slacked, there was a lot of stuff going on around here lately and with all the commotion I never got to the store to get some sponges to cover my filter intake so I think a lot of the young got sucked up as I was watching them the other day and saw 5 get sucked into the filter :(
I know they will breed again and I still have some fry that seem happy, healthy and are strong enough to get out of the current from the filter intake so we will see what happens and I will get some thing for the filter intake the next time I go to town.

Not many pics as the little guys move so fast I just got a blurry dot for most of the shots.

This is the best shot I could get and you can see two of the fry pretty clear. One right in the middle and another up by flower pot base.

This is how most came out but I liked this one, it shows a good size comparison of an 11 day old fry vs the 1 year old mother
