i have a gold and a turquoise severum that keep attempting to breed. the gold will lay eggs and they both guard them but the turquoise male seems to be unwilling or incapable of fertilizing them. all of the eggs turn pale after a day and none ever hatch.

are they just incompatible species or is the male just not doing his part?

Are you sure it's a male? Because I've had several pairs of males try to breed. In fact a doing it right now. Leads me to think there are a lot of *** severums. :p

Otherwise just give tgem some time, they should be able to breed.

well one definitely lays eggs. ive never caught her in the act but the appearance and brooding behavior of the gold suggests shes the mommy. I'll be sure to get pix next time she lays to show what i mean. shes spawned at least 6 times now. pretty much every time i water change these days.

Can you take a picture of their breeding tubes when they are out? Sounds like you have two females.

good idea. like i said its hard to catch them in the act. I'll post up for a photoshoot after my next waterchange.

but youre saying a gold and turquoise will hybridize given you have a pair?
