My big gold wolffish (about 8") has gotten more aggressive. He was always really rough with the other two gold wolves, chasing and nipping at them, especially if they every swam to close to his lair, but a lot of times they'd swim in harmony in circles around the top of the tank. Today I went down stairs check one of my other tanks and found my 7" hujeta gar stuffed almost completely in his mouth! :nilly: After chasing him about the tank a bit I was able to rescue the gar who is badly battered but still swimming around. I moved the hujetas to another tank but know I'm worried about my bichirs in that tank. He'd never bothered any other fish besides the other wolves before today. Never trust a wolf, huh?

Yeah u might want to seperate him cuz hes tasted blood now...LOL...and upwards from 8 inches Ive heard that they tend to get quite a bit more aggressive. So either keep a very very good eye out on your other fish or play it safe and seperate him b/c next time u might not discover a problem until its to late...hope this helps and good luck.

what did i tell ya.
if the bichirs are longer than him they should be fine.
as for him eating the huetas.
i think he was hungry.
not being aggressive.

the hujeta died from his wounds so i guess it was too late :(. don't really have anywhere else to move him to as all the other tanks are too small and/or occupied.

yeah, i'm hopping he was just hungry. he is definitely aggressive towards the other two golds sometimes but never towards the bichirs or gars. oh well if he does again (eats someone else) i'll have to do something about him.

I've heard various stories of Gold Wolves not accepting a tank w/ their own species, and some where they got along fine. So in your case I cn see him being aggressive towards the other Golds. Hopefully he was just hungry, either way its a gamble w/ a wolf. Sorry about the Hujeta...:( With a wolfs jaws and teeth, it usually ends that way when it gets into it w/ another fish. I guess jus continue to keep em well fed, and a weary eye on his aggression.

I would not keep any wolf fish over 6" with any streamlined or cylindrical shaped fish as they fit easily in their mouths. I would move the bichirs if you can't move the wolves. Trust me if they decide to chomp on a bichir they will sever the body. Had a wolf do this to a lima the same size many years ago.

if i ever kept gold wolves together,i'd crowd the tank with loads of feeders.
that way theyll be too busy killing feeders than each other. :D

i already have to clean their poo every day or every other day, if i gave them feeders all the time i'd be cleaning it every two hours! :nilly:

Sounds like you going to have to sacrifice somebody. Bummer. Better start advertising.

yeah man i've been thinking the same. took me awhile get these golds and i hate to give up any of my other fish. i may just get rid of the bigger gold wolf for now and see how things work out.
