Nice looking fish. I find golden base a bit harder and have to be patient when it comes to getting full potential in coloration. It's a lot to do with their genetics. I agree with most comments. Just feed good healthy food not too high in protein, maintain good healthy water and their environment the FH will slowly show it's full potential. Here's a couple of pics of my golden base and my F2. Genetics plays a huge role. The golden base is at 5 inches and the F2 at 4 inches. Yes agreed, its been 3 months I realised patience is the key. When I got my FH as juvenile it had major white uncoloured patches. It has been picking up colours and turning too more vibrant colours each day.
I reckon my FH wont grow much head even though his Dad had one because the head size is constant for a month now.But thats fine.FH has much personality.
You got both beautiful FH, really like the shiny glitter dots.

Reason why I'm so fascinated with flowerhorns. There's always some changes day to day just to see them flourish into amazing looking fishes. I find it very satisfying. And the interaction we get from them. You can try what we do here in South East Asia. We use a mirror to trigger their territorial behaviour. Helps with the nuchal hump growth. Still an amazing looking fish even if it doesn't have a big nuchal hump. Here's a pic of one of my FH with a smaller nuchal hump. It's at 8 inches and I don't think his nuchal hump will get any bigger. Coloration is not as bright but full body pearling. IMG_20220206_040628.jpg

Sorry to assume you didn't. I'm still new to the forum. I would love to see the progress of your golden base. Looking forward to see some updates. I'll post up some of the fh I groom as well.
