I would advise you to get the biggest tank that you can afford and have space for as Salminus is a large growing and very active fish.Tankmates are hit or miss as they can also be bullies.I have watched them relentlessly harass other fish when I had them.
Some of the great vendors here on MFK get them from time to time,give Monster Aquarium a call.
 
No less than 8'x4' for foot print imo. They may need more as they are a very active open water fish. May need more length specifically. I'm not sure how long they can get. Only see weights, don't think they'll get bigger than 4' but if they begin approaching it you'll need a wider tank. As stated above if you wanna keep them with other fish, you'll likely need lots of dithers so it's spread out, theyll need to be tough, and might wanna stick to bottom dwellers for main fish.
