You know the saying, "Never trust a catfish" ;), no but seriously it depends on the size of the baby cichla and it depends on the growth rate of the catfish. The cichla will need to be larger than the cat or they will be food.

The bass are the same length as the cat... But that means they are a pretty lot bigger (bulky) than the cat. I'm more worried about the cat than the bass! I'll try to get a pic of the cat & bass so you can see the difference. I'm mostly worried about when the lights go out!

I think as long as you have dithers in there and keep everybody well fed I think it should be fine.

Made it through the night. I'm going & getting 100 guppies & see how things go. The cat ate bloodworms off the bottom this morning. I'd rather keep it in the big tank with the bass if I can!

Well I just through in 70 guppies & he didn't eat a single one. The 6 bass in there ate all 70 without him even trying... And he had some chances! So I moved him to a 20 long I have vacant (because I just moved a flowerhorn into a 40). I dropped some bloodworms in, he ate some & is doing much better. I think the stronger filters were stressing him out as well in the bigger tank! I'll let him get bigger & stronger and try again with the bass later.

That catfish will outgrow the bass. In a few months it will be bigger than the bass. You'll be fine with them together for now just make sure the cat eats.

I'm jealous, I love that little guy. I'd live to have one. I'm just a bit leery about buying one of the worlds largest catfish is all. These are stunningly beautiful fish though. Man its tempting.
