hello all...this is my first post here. I don't even have an aquarium. I really am here to get some advice and maybe offer something special to someone. I have a place where a golden gar is and it really can't get out unless it works real hard. I don't think it will with plenty of food and enough water to sustain it. Soon with the spring rains it will be able to get back into the main river system so time is somewhat of the essence here. Forgive me if I sound greedy, but I honestly think this thing is so beautiful it must be enjoyed by many others. As I understand it this is just a rare color phase and not a unique species so I have no ethical issues with its capture. My question is can I legally capture and sell it? (Its in Texas) My other question, is anyone interested in buying it? If nobody is interested I will simply let nature take its course and hopefully get the opportunity to see it again next year. I simply don't have the equipment or know how to keep a fish like this.

im interested, just have to arrange shipping mate. im pretty sure you can capture and sell it.

I will be talking to Tx parks and wildlife monday. I would assume it would be o.k. since it is a non-game fish, but you never know. Last thing I want to do is something illegal.

you would need at least a fishing license regardless of the species, BUT depending on the species you would have to check into further regulations. texas has rules for its alligator gar fishery, but spotted and longnose gars are less regulated.--
