are these guys fast growers? if i buy a 3" specimen how big of a pleco will i have in a year if fed and cared well?

Royals are the collective name for the larger of the genus Panaque. The most common ones are Panaque nigrolineatus aka L190, L191, L027 etc. They grow fairly slowly, but given the best conditions for an individual 3" fish, you could get about 3" growth. I've had L190 do roughly this, and L027 grew about 2" in a year.

Wow, that's awfully slow. Should be bettter to buy a bigger specimen. My aro will outgrow it.

thanks for the info. maybe i'll just grow it out. i'll buy that 3" guy. :D should be good in my 120 datnoid tank for a while. i'll post pics as soon as i have it.
