Just curious if anyone here has kept the golden rainbow trout.

Please explain where you got, how you kept it and perhaps a pic or two if you have one

Never kept but have seen them at a hatchery near Lake Erie. Tried to catch him but he wouldn't bite. They would be hard to care for though.

Yup, as with most trout a golden rainbow would need a very large tank with cool water, plenty of filtration and good water flow. It sounds like no one so far has kept them? :(

i don't believe it could be possible outside of constructing a large system of tiered concrete ponds and raceways

???

I know of several people keeping them in large aquariums just fine ;)

I'm guessing hatcheries would be the only place you could find them. They wouldn't make it in the wild, to easy for predators to see.

they have some at the mall of america and they are in a created river with pools and falls. i think it could be kept if the water is cold, highly oxigenated and well filtered. current is nice but no nessity i have seen rainbows in lots of lakes with not current and they were fine. (they were stocked of corse, but so is a tank.) current comes into play for breeding.

Cabala's in Hamburg, PA has them in their display pond- they do get big and need very clean, oxygenated water (like the rest of the trout). I have caught them in streams in PA (all stocked fish)- more skittish than the other trout. Sometimes will catch them late in the season or early next season (referring to trout fishing season) so they can avoid predators depending where they are stocked (well overgrown creeks and larger ponds with some cover seem to allow them to hold over).
