A common fish I catch in my private pond and I'm wondering if anyone has experience and information on these guys. Mostly common things I'm wondering like tank size, food, etc.

Thanks

Mine is about 5" and started eating flake food after about a week. I have it in a 90 gallon and seems to be doing good. It does not hide, just stays out and swims around all day.

I have several medium-sized ones in a community tank. They're one of the most peaceful large minnows and get along well with all the other fish. Mine eat flakes, pellets, algae wafers, and shredded greens. They are omnivorous and tend to eat more vegetable matter than chubs, for example.

You'll need a fairly large footprint tank. These guys can get to over 14". I would suggest an 18" X 48" footprint minimum.

They are very hardy and can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, flow regimes, and water chemistries.
