Hey im planning on grabbing a few six inch shiners to rig up tomorrow and was wondering how exactly I should hook them up. I usually go through the back on minnows but these guys are exceptionally bigger. I would go through the lips but I heard they can't breathe then, which could be bull, im not sure. Any tips? I just looked up this through the nose action that seems pretty reasonable. In under one eye, out through the same spot on the other side. Either way Im under-confident in all of the methods and would love to hear from a veteran fisher or any local genius. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rock and Roll Heinihole.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what's a bait harness? I'd assume its exactly what it sounds like, right? I'm still a new fisherman.

well they are used for large baits. Its a rig with two hooks basically that one hook goes threw the mouth the other above the dorsal.

How and where are you going to fish them? If you use bobbers hook in the back, also hook in the back if you just cast and let them swim around. If you are casting and reeling them in hook them in the mouth or if you are fishing a river. They will live longer hooked in the back because they can breath better.

Okay. That harness does sound cool though, makes the fish like a live crankbait. I usually hook small guys right behind the dorsal when I fish my lake off the shore. I use the bobber and try to give them as much room to swim as I can without letting them get away into cover. I just was curious if the big fish would be able to shake my hook easier than small, inch long minnows. I'll give it a try just the way i've been doing it. Hopefully I wont fire the shiner half way across the lake. I'm sure I will need to cast a bit more gingerly than normal. Thanks for the info guys.
