I got some crickets for free, sounds like I live in a jungle out here,
and when I look up, I see a Teju sunbathing.
My :chillpill:

And all because I knew my LFS is Top!
Now I know my LRS is also, cause when I went for Morios,
my attention was drawn to the Tejus.
Golden Tejus!!

So now I have one, hopefully a male.
He's 14" and eating crickets, morios and apple like theres no tomorrow.
I wanted to post 5 pics, but dunno how anymore,
so pics will follow.

:D

that whould be cool to see some pics
and isnt it tegu??

Im gonna find out how to post,
and all I know, fonetic its Tegu, or more like Techu.
The CH pronounced as in mach.
And written down it would be Teju.
For myself I like to pronounce it likewise.
And Im realy gonna show some pics soon, but the paperclip is gone,
so I dunno what to do.
:D

At the moment you can't upload photos on MFK. You'll have to use something like photobucket until it's fixed. Sorry.

OK thanks! Im not that experienced with this medium, and a tip on
using photobucket is welcome!

And in Rome do as the Romans do. Cause this is an American forum,
Ill write and pronounce it as Tegu.
BTW my Teguixin is called Casiquiare.

:headbang2Tegus rule:headbang2

Ps is it possible to rename this post to "Golden Tegu"?

I have a 2 year old 42"+ Argentinean Black and White Tegu... He's very very awesome...

I had a Columbian Golden Tegu for a short time when I was a kid (late 80s). Mine was unbelievably aggressive and would not only bite me when attempting to handle him but would tear into me. He also attacked a couple other reptiles I (ignorantly) tried to house it with. It even attacked and ate the foot off of a turtle (RES).

It seems most Columbian Golden Tegus are wild caught as Columbia has few restrictions on export of them. It seems reasonable that a wild caught lizard would not take appreicate human contact.

My local pet shop let me trade it back in...

Congratulations on finding a much kinder Golden than I did!

As for spelling 'Tegu'... the latin is Tupinambis teguixin, thus properly shortening this would come out as Tegu. I'm not thorough enough on Latin to conclusively suggest pronunciation, but I've always heard it pronounced 'tay-GOO'

Cool, thanks for sharing.
I wonder if I can keep mine manageable.
Thats why I would like to read about experiences with the Teguixin.

My LRS said its better to get a female in case I would like
to get rid of it because its so an angry animal.
Immediately I told them Im never gonna give him away.
I think its a male cause hes bigger than the rest and his markings are
bright. But he can be a she. I dont mind. Stunning anyway.
I have the presumption hes no wildcaught, but am not sure yet.

All my life Im pretty scared of dogs, and the fear of beeing bitten.
Now Im making my own decisions about beeing bitten.
When, where, and how. :D
And most important, I know if I get bitten, it will be a gorgeous
perpetrator. :D :D

I'll post some pics of his 40G tank with 7G pool.
Pool was leaking so it took some days..
But now its fixed and as soon as Casiquiare is awake I'll
introduce him.

I'm working on a kind of leash which can be placed around either his
abdomen or higer up, so his outbursts can be regulated.
All to keep him manageable, for jointly sunbathes.

Anyone more got valuable experiences with the Teguixin?
I would love to read about it.

Ps: Explaining about pronounciation to a Dutchman causes phonetic
upheaval.
A spanish 'J', is pronounces as 'G', so Tegu is IMO acceptable.

His pool is still leaking so I tried to do a good job again.
Hopefully tomorrow I can fill it up, and introduce my nugget to his new home.
Heres my glistening severe creature, he's bit dry here, so just
severe:

He loves crickets and those tiny fish I also feed to my Pikecichlid, and
hes bigger than last wednesday when I got him.
:woot:
