I guess i have been neglecting to provide some updates on my X-back that lives by himself (with NTT separated on one side). guess i have been going on and on about the red aro and its stellar growth. The lil guy is doing well and coloring up but he is very VERY shy and unfriendly.<sigh> ... during the day sits around the bottom of the aquarium :irked: but is very active at night.

Quite picky eater. He is gaining length but not depth.

hmmm, contemplating to move him back in with the BB but i hate moving fish around so i have been postponing ...

Have you tried reversing the lighting? Lights on at night, off during the day.

Maybe when the paimas become a bit hardier you should move him in with them?

Nah, not with arapaimas, mate. too much contrast. paimas would draw all attention ^^ besides i am afraid x-back would be too stressed :irked:

Thanks for the advice, but i don't turn on the lights at all (even if it is in the canopy).

Sooooooooooooo shy though ... to the point of being annoying :irked:

It really seems that he prefers the 8' to 6' for some reason cos he no longer sits at the bottom. now he sits on top... could be because of paimas or stronger current.

there is also more sun in the new aquarium so the coloration seem to improve as well. He is really metalic gold now

hmmm, still shy though. always swims away in a hurry if i approach the tank :irked: on the other hand his new tank mate HBRTG is very inquisitive i.e. comes to the front when i approach the tank (paimas are also quite inquisitive). Also, HBRTG swims with bottom and top fins open to the full while larger X-back swims away with all fins closed - very unsightly for now.

Hopefully, he will grow more accustomed to people
