Don’t confuse ingrained white lumps on the fishes gill covers for white spot. When I first started keeping fish, I made this mistake. I would keep adding anti white spot, anti this, anti that, to the tank, and these spots just stayed. The fish seemed fine. They them mated later that year

This is the case with goldfish. Males do develop white tubercles on their gills during spawning period.;) Here's one of my watonai.

Unlike tubercles, ich can start in several parts of the body. Quite distinctive and should not be mistaken for the breeding stars goldfish get.
