Not exactly monster fish, but interested in getting a discussion going on tank size for fancy goldfish.

I have mine in a tank 36" long, but whether I watch it from afar, or up close; all 4 goldfish linger at the spot where they are fed, very rarely exploring further outside of it.

Makes me wonder if they wouldn't do just as well in a smaller tank. Of course this isn't taking into account water volume and changes etc

Although not monster fish, goldfish get quite hefty, I've seen many over a ft.
Mine started out about 2" and now about 3 years old, they are maybe 6".

Their first winter, they spent Nov thru April in a 75gal, last winter in a 500gal intex pool with my sub-tropical Uruguayan cichlids.
While overwintering in my very cold basement, they are fed very little.

Summers are spent in a @ 500gal pond, where they continuously spawn, and make use of the entire pond.

Have a bunch of them in my pond. Take my advice, never ever release goldfish into a tank or pond where you can't control their numbers..
