I have a shubunkin goldfish that i've had for a while now. Started out as a feeder, then a cycle fish, and is now a 10" goldfish living in a tropical tank. I know for the long term, warm water is not good for coldwater fish, so I'm trying to find him a new home. I'm curious though, after having lived in 80-85 degree temps his whole life, would suddenly going into cold water hurt him? I know he would be acclimated, but 85 to below 70 would be quite a drop.

They will do fine. I bought a few koi the other day from my lfs that kept them in 78F water. I put them in my out door pond and they are doing just fine. Just let the bag float on top of the water to get your goldy use to the temperature and it will do great. They are really hardy ;) No signs of stress or diseases. They were eating a couple hours after I got them.
