I have had my goldfish for over a year now and ever since they where young, they had these white specks inbeded in their gills. THey seemed to be fine so I didn't bother with treating them.

The fish live in a 55 gallon tank powered by a Eheim 2215. Water changes done weekly and filter cleaned once flow rate lowers. The fish are fed Laguna goldfish pellets.

I have dojo loaches in the tank too and they have no signs of this.

The specks have only recently started to appear on the pectoral fins of the fish.

The specks look like grains of salt. I really don't think it's ick because until now it has not spread (like a year to spread) and the loaches are not being affected.

I will be happy to add anything I have missed. Thank you for your responces.

That's because they are breeding stars. Are you sure your goldfish are not attempting to spawn?

That's what I thought it was too. But all 6 fish have it. Don't only the males get it? Also, shouldn't they only get it when their adults? Not when their young?

Size will not indicate their age accurately. If you have them for a year, chances are good they are already sexually matured, whether stunted or not.

Any pics of them?

You can check here how to determine their sexes.
