About a two weeks ago, my ranchu started sitting at the bottom of the tank. I've had him 3 years already and am rather attached to this chubby guy. I placed him in a floating basket and checked all my parameters. Everything checked out fine. Ammonia and nitrite 0. Nitrate at 20. I treated the tank with prazi in case it was worms with no luck. He still eats and poops black. He only moves when food is available. Today I pulled him out and checked him with a magnifying glass. No sores, anchor worms, or any indication of illness. I'm baffled.

The water is @78 degrees. No flashing, twitching, or heavy breathing. He reacts when he sees me by swimming on his belly. Like he's weighed down to the bottom. I fed him peas, read about constipation in fancies.

It's a stab in the dark but worth a shot. Appreciate any input.

Today's the last day of parasite guard. I'll do a water change and add chemi pure and give the tank a break from meds. His tank mates are doing well and i'd rather not treat them again. I'll use some of that water and a sponge filter in a 10gal for the rest of his treatment. I'll try that salt, thanks flagtail, and continue with peas for now. I hope he comes back.

One of my fancys was acting the same way. I upped the Temps, but i also in desperation fed it food that had been soaked in empson salt and i did the peas. Can't say what did the trick, but he recovesed. I add a litttle pond salt here and there. Hasnt had any issues. Wosh i could help more.

Good luck with him, it might be something you have no control over; such as internal blockage, which unfortunately can more likely happen to these fish
