goldfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
make sure theyve got lots of room, their full grown, decent water quality, and of course that you have a male and a female. It takes a couple years for goldfish to reach sexual maturity. ive never purposefully bred them, but i had a group of half a dozen spawn in my pond one spring.

For breeding feeders you need about a 150 gallon tank or pond preferably pond then 3 males and 2 females that are mature if you buy them feeder sized they will take about 18 to 20 months for them to be mature and be able to sex during that time frame you should be feeding some high quality foods with a 40% protein and 50% greens and 10% carbohydrates and vitamins then as they become breeding age feed them some foods that promote spawnig rapashy makes a food that promotes spawning and can feed the fry
Then as they are going into spring feed them a bit of frozen and or live foods .
Put spawning mops made of yarn and a cork in the aquarium or pond and check them 2 times a day if there's eggs then hatch them in a 75 gallon tank and feed them live bbs and then the rapashy as they get older. Good luck

If possible, put them outside. If not, cool them down for a while to get them in the breeding mood. Make sure there is plenty of plants/ spawning mops in the aquarium for them to spawn on, and give them a balanced diet. My goldfish used to go crazy chasing each other in my little outdoor pond.

I agree about the pond, in mine they spawned on and off all summer.
Although the koi usually ate most of the eggs, I'd end up with a couple dozen juvies every fall.
Video of them spawning below, if you look closely, you can see eggs scattered everywhere including the tops of lily pads
