Anyone here had a L014 in an acrylic? I'm planning to upgrade and I don't want to part ways with my pleco - very active, beautiful fish or have the tank ruined.
(I read the previous posts addressing the subject and the conclusion is that is based on the pleco type , the royal being a big no).
thnks

goldies do have rather large teeth... wouldnt reccomend putting them or panaque in an acrylic tank.

Nomad, does your Goldie hang out on the glass a lot in the tank he's in now? I don't have an L14 but I've got 9 Plecs and none of them hang on the glass, not even in the Plec tank.

:iagree: All of my Royals hang out in the bottom of the tank in between the driftwood piles.. I've never seen them on the sides of the tank in over a year.....

My royal does hang out on the glass regularly. I have set the current so that most of it streams along the back side of the tank so he love the hang in the current while on the backside glass.

I wouldn't recommend a pleco and a acryl tank, although I have never tried it myself, I can imagine them quite capable of doing serious damage to the tank.

good point .....not often ....I saw him on the back panel (the one with the background) a couple of times.
(I don't doubt the fact that it happened once or twice , but I'm inclined to think that the entire "pleco vs. acrylic" thing is blown out of proportion since I haven't seen any threads of people showing pictures of their acrylics being ruined by plecos)
Any other thoughts ?

I think thats because people dont want to risk it.

Even if he did attach to the glass every once in awhile & even if that just happened to be on the front- that doesn't mean he's going to scratch it. I really think you'll do more damage to it accidently than the fish ever will. I can't even keep a CD unscratched, I'd make a mess of an acrylic tank.

Maybe the acryl will hold, but think about your plec eating little tiny pieces of acryl....just keep pleco's in glass tanks.
