I have put up this thread because I am wondering about purchasing these 2 fish. I mainly put this thread up to get info from owners of these 2 fish fish. I just want to know how big do they usually get, is it easy converting them off live foods, and about how much room do they need.

You can find a lot of info on them if u search the forum..

I'm not familiar with the specifics of the goliath, but there are 3 main species of Payara. The Hydrolycus Armatus, being the most aggressive, reaching sizes up to 24" or so in captivity. The H. Tatauaia aka red tail payara, grows to about 18" and the H. Scomberoides, being the most skittish and hardest to keep alive and reaching to 12". IMO it's not worth it to keep the Scomberoides.

It's tough for any of them to convert to pellets, fillets, etc. Some have had success using a "teacher fish."
