End of July i will be on vaca for 3-4 days. Leaving thursday evening, coming back sunday evening-night.

I have a Chinese Algae Eater and 5 baby Balas. If i feed them a little more than usual right before i leave, will they be ok when i return home?

I have an automatic feeder, but to set it up on my tank i'd have to alter the lid a little, which i do not want to do because 1) the fish may jump out, and 2) my hood is nearly air tight with only two tiny little gaps, cutting a giant hole in it would just bring me back to the first problem with them jumping out.

So? Should they be ok without food for 3-4 days, or should i figure out some way to feed them?

(I cannot trust anyone to feed them, my family is full of slackers and dumb arses. Plus, things tend to go missing in my room a lot when im not home, so im locking my bedroom door.)

Should be ok. I've never tried those time release vacation feeder foods they sell at petsmart/petco, but you could try those too. I think the gel based ones are better? Not really sure. Anyone tried them? I think Tetra makes one.

get the feeding blocks that's good for 3 days. That should solve all of your problems.

Hate feeding blocks, really mess up your water quality as the "casing" dissolve...

Would recommand a timer. Just get a cheap one will do.

Hello; I have left fish unfed for 3-4 days at a time many dozens of times over the years. A few times for more than a week. The fish did fine.

1. Change your water the night before you go
2. Overfeed a little on the day you go.
3. Get a power timer for the light in your tank.
4. Enjoy your vacation :D

Just go lock the door and the fish will be fine---gauranteed. Fish only eat about once a week in the wild anyways.

Alright, cool, yea, the timer feeder is what im talking about, if i get one my lid will be screwed. Guess i'll just have to overfeed a little and hope no one is a good lockpicker.

How much of a water change? Just a standed 50% like i do weekly, or more?

if you still want to use the feeder get chicken wire that people use for foundation and bend it to the shape of the tank thats what i have done to the back of my tank
