Hello all, im new to the site just thought id introduce myself...
names liam, from ireland :) am 16 :P

Reason why i put this in piranaha section is cos i recently got a piranha off my friend...
He gave it to me because this piranha was eatin and fightin the oscars which he has.

it is about 4 inches long, i currently have no stones/sand etc... would u recomend a certain type of gravel/stone/sand??
i was thinking of purchasing another 2 piranha but cant get the 4 inch long because they dont sell big anymore here.. would the big piranaha be okay with 2 small ones??

any advice is good thanks
liam

Small Gravel. Driftwood and lots of plant cover. And a big tank. No 55g either. Around the 125g range because you need a schoal of them.

depends on how much smaller the new ones will be. if they're too small, you just bought em a snack. and+1 on getting a 125. pool filter sand looks good and works great.

Hi, welcome to MFK.

do you know which species of piranha it is? if it's pygocentrus then you can add other pygocentrus specie, if it's serrasalmus specie then I would advise keeping it solo.
if you can post a picture here and we can let you know what you have.

I'm guessing it will most likely be pygocentrus nattereri (aka red belly piranha) as they are the most common piranha around in the hobby.

You could add a few more, depends on the tank size you have/willing to upgrade to. Typical rule of thumb is ~20g of water per fish but it's never set in stone and footprint of the tank is an other important factor.
Piranhas are messy eaters so you need to have a strong filtration system, over filter is never a bad thing.

as for adding new fish, I probably wouldn't add anything smaller than 3" together with the 4" fish. if only smaller ones are available then you can divide the tank and power feed the small ones so they can catch up on size quicker and you can join them together once the size difference isn't too big.

feel free to ask any question you might have.

welcome i always wanted one i am 14 yrs
