In The Little Town Of Bedrock!
Some of you may remember my African Biotope that was going fine before I added a nasty piece of driftwood, well it all went down the drain killing all my fish but my Del which was later sold.

Anyways I'm thinking of retrying it but with a slightly smaller tank. Heres the stock list/tank specs. Do you think they could live in the 33 Long or would the 40 Long be the min?

40 Gallon Long (48”x13”x16”) or 33 Gallon Long (48”x13”x12”) (LxWxH)
5xCongo Tetras (Phenacogrammus interruptus)
2xSpotted Climbing Perch/ Leopard Ctenopma (Ctenopoma acutirostre)

1xSenegal Bircher (Polypterus senegalus)
1xElephant Nosed Fish (Gnathonemus tamandua)

? 2xKribs (Pelvicachromis pulcher)?

Would two Kribs be possible or is that the max?

Thanks!

Hi,

i'm pretts sure that the P. pulcher would be killed by the Polypterus sooner or later...

My senegalus attack Goldfish bigger than a P. pulcher...

And i would say, that the tank is a little bit too small fot that combo...

Alright no Kribs then, I was just thinking of putting them in for a little bit of colour other then the Congo tetras.

Really? I thought that the 40 Long would be fine. I'll wait for some more replies to make sure though. If the majority say its to small thought I'll shorten the stock list a little more.

Also sorry for the small font on the stocklist, I just copy and pasted it there because I was in a rush. Here it is slightly bigger.

40 Gallon Long (48"x13"x16") (LxWxH)
5xCongo Tetras (Phenacogrammus interruptus)
2xSpotted Climbing Perch/Leopard Ctenopoma (Ctenopoma acutirostre)
1xSenegal Bircher (Polypterus senegalus)
1xElephant Nosed Fish (Gnathonemus tamandua)

Congo Tetras (Phenacogrammus interruptus) will soon have some bite marks or nip fins and will soon end up as food once the sene is fully grown. Don't unter estimate the size of the small bichirs as they can be very unpredictable to smaller tankmates espcially during lights out. My 9" albino sene even took down a 3.5" midas cichlid and death rolled it.

Alright, I"ll make sure to keep my eyes on the Congos. Are there any larger African tetras, barbs, or rasboras that have a better chance at survival?

How does my stocking list seem? is it a bit over stocked? Could a African knife live in the tank for life?

Thanks

a larger african tetra would be the distochodus sexfaciatus also known as the Clown tetra but you would need a 100 g tank for that since they usually grow to 15'' and have a max size of 33'' but it is highly unlike it will reach that size.

It depends on what you think is over stocked. Some people think a 250g is the minimum for an arowana while other people and I think a 100g tank is ideal for an arowana.

In this case I think you tank is a little over stocked and your fish wont be in the best of best conditions but your fish will still be happy and healthy.
