Makin a Poo
Hello

Growing up my grandfather had 2 tanks, prob 55 gallons & he had Angels in them.. The older I get & remember growing up with him I find myself always atleast looking at the Angels every time I hit my LFS.. So being the seeker of deals I am I did a little trading & came up with this tank, which I plan on putting in the bedroom. I'm planning on starting out with 5 or 6 smaller Angels, growing them out & keeping the best 2 out of the bunch. As far as filtration this came with a old marineland hob filter, I'm debating on replacing it with maybe a aquaclear 50 or 70-- Thoughts?
Substrate will be more than likely Black sand, I may mix it with some pea gravel also, lighting is a small led setup.. Heater is a eheim jäger. Any suggestions just from looking at the pics of the tank? I have very hard alkaline water, however I do have a RO unit from my reef days that I plan on using for this set-up.. Here's a pic of the tank, once I'm done with the bedroom renovation I will move it in there & get it set-up..

I'm planning on going with Koi Angels

What size is that tank?

That tank is too small for an adult pair of angels. Nor would it be very good for 5-6 growouts.

I think you will be fine w/ a mated pair of domestic angels in that tank & your growout plans sound fine(I've grown out a group of five in a 30gal. It looks to be at least a 30gal hex? No other angels though, just the pair - they are a territorial fish & are really fiesty despite their delicate appearance.

RO water is not necessary for domestic angels. Some wilds yes, but not domestics.

I recommend Angelfishplus or Aquabid for koi angels. Try to buy quarter size or larger.

It's around a 30 gallon hex, yes I'm only planning on the 1 pair once they pair up. When I picked the tank up the guy I got it from had a 9in oscar in it that he had for a year or 2. I didn't want the oscar for my 180 so I ran it by my LFS & gave it to them. I was thinking it would be ok for a pair.

I think a pair would be fine. About the only thing, if any, I would add would be some cories. I don't like hex tanks for tetras - not enough room to school.
