Hey guys so I was wondering what do you use to take pictures of your fish? Right now I am just using my phone, but zooming with it has poor quality, and the shutter speed is slow so if the fish is not staying still the picture does not usually come out good. I am clueless when it comes to cameras now days, I would like keep it under $150, honestly even closer to $100 if possible, but I have no idea what I can actually get for that amount of money? I just want a camera that can get good clear pictures of my fish. What would you suggest? If possible I would love to also see some pictures taken with the camera you are recommending. Thanks so much!

Unless you go to craigslist I don't think you'll find a good camera under 150$. I think a cheap dslr new would be around 300$. And that probably include a lens.
I don't know what phone you have but plenty of the newer phones take awesome pictures with some practice.
I have an iPhone 6 and I make due.

You can get a decent point and shoot in that price range. I have a fujifilm s4250 that I used for awhile before I picked up a dslr. It's a decent camera with 24x zoom and its in your price range.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I will look into that one. I have a Droid Maxx and my biggest issue is if I zoom in because the fish is not right up against the glass then my photo goes blurry. Also the shutter speed is slow and I have to have them stay still to get a clear picture. Maybe I am making it focus wrong, I am not sure to be honest I have always just aimed it and clicked.

I use a stock Canon Digital Rebel, the price has come down considerably the last few years, to just over $100 for the camera body.
Its a good lens that will set you back.

Thats a great picture! What lens would you recommend for someone just getting started with aquarium photography? I have read a bit on the different mm lens and what not, but right now I dont quite understand it all. What would be a good all around lens for this sort of thing I guess is what I am asking. Thanks!

Sub'd

I cant even get my wifes ( good) camera to take good pics. The shutter speed is to slow unless i use the flash.

For that pic, I used a standard 18-55mm Canon lens with image stabilizer. But these days I've added these (below) inexpensive hi def 0.45 wide angle with macro rings to help in closer range. I had considered a true macro lens, and talked about it with a pro, she recommended the rings, to get my feet wet, because a true macro, is quite expensive.

Here is a shot with the macro ring

and with both added on the front of the stock lens

I tried using a decent camera and never came away happy with the pics. I found messing with the settings would cause the picture to become too dark, I think you'd need a flash thing on top of the tank, covered to disperse light, for it to properly work.
