Well iono when this AC hob was made (now is ac110) but ive been having problems with it make a really bad annoying grinding noise. was wonder wht canister that will be good in mech and bio filtration. was leaning towards an FX5 or maybe an XP3.

and why not get another AC110? i guess its time to upgrade to something better and nicer so yeah. lets hear some input!!

I love the fluval canisters, I've had two now (205 and 305) that have lived through just about everything for 5 plus years now. That includes running 2 years straight, sitting dry 1 year, and running again for several years. Also had one running with air pocket (oops) for a week. I noticed one of my shut off valves dribbles a little when I use it, so I got on ebay and got a replacement ready for $13 shipped. My next canister filter purchase will be two fx5's for my 300 gallon tank.

grinding noise is usually the impeller. You could always just buy a new one. Or get an FX5 you'll be happy or any Fluval really. That's my 2 cents anyway.

Edit:Now that I think about it...I'm not sure if the actual housing for the impeller on the ac500 and ac 110 is exact? Ya may have to look that up first.

they are different. i have an ac110 on the same tank and they look completely different. anything on the xp3 ?

You never go wrong with an EHEIM 2217 Canister I have 6 run quiet and are in operation for 20 yrs, You can use any media you need, you have open canister space, no trays, I would use that hands down. The best on the market.

I'm a big fan of the Rena canisters. Super quiet, do a very good job, and they are very easy to clean. I am currently running a couple XP3s right now for those same reasons.

FX5 is a beast though, and you wouldnt be disappointed at all if you got one. You might want to look at the XP4 also.

The XP3 is probably too small also
I use mine on a 40gal planted
I would however recommend Rena
I absolutely loved my Fluval 304 and 404 until I got the XP3
It has all the great features of the Fluvals, and is easier to maintain

130 gal and all you were running was an AC110????

I know someone that has a 110 gallon and runs 2 x AC110 and 1 x FX5.

I suggest at least the FX5, maybe in conjunction with a new HOB. I run a Fluval 405, AC110 and AC70 on my 75 gallon.

More filtration the better.:headbang2
