what is a good catfish for a 235gal (5Lx3Wx2H) it needs to be ok with rays tho and cant eat 5" clown loaches

A monster catfish might be a problem if you plan on keeping the loaches since they grow really slow....

ever look into a giraffe cat?

Brachyplatystoma juruense is a fine choice. but will probably eat your loaches.

i would say megaladodoras uronoscopus(irwini) they get to 18"-24" dont dash around the tank and their armoured! should be ok with rays

Agamyxis pectinifrons or Spotted Rafael, Talking Catfish Spotted Rafael Catfish are a peaceful animal. They are a solitary fish that will generally not bother other tank mates. They will do fine in a community tank, even if they are by themselves. The Spotted Rafael is nocturnal and will mostly hide during the day. I have one in with a Gar 5 Clown Loach a knife fish and a Arrow. and he is fine quite a nice looking fish and gets to about 7"
