Hi, im tryin to find out if $55 for a 13" Alligator Gar is a decent price. What are the usual prices for Gars? Thanks

do you have a pic of it? polys right..most gar labled gator turn out to be florida.
 
Ill try to get a pic of it this week sometime.
 
Yea my LFS has 2 "alligator gars" but i dont believe it. they are covered in plack spots. do alligators gars have black spot when juvenile? they ar about 6 inches. or do u think they r spotted gars?

$55 seems a little high but, you'd pay more for shipping on an lesser priced one. Also, true gator gars have been scarce lately so, $55 for a good size proven specimen may be the smart move. Here are a couple of pics (Photos C.Yulo) of a young gator gar of the same length. Note the wide rostrum and double row of upper teeth.

Not trying to run up your fish bill but, if the look of the gator gar is what you're after (wide rostrum/multiple teeth rows, etc), there's Atractosteus tropicus or tropical gar. They resemble the gator gar and only grow to max 4ft (instead of the gator gars 9ft and up). In captivity, they all but stop growing at about the 18" mark (per all the current owners that post about trops). They're only hindrance to ownership is that their starting price can be around $150.
