Good Deal?

Hi All, First post! (long time lurker though)

I'm thinking about getting a 130 gallon tank. 72x24x18, The seller wants 800$ CDN (pretty much on par w/ USD) for it as a complete setup (lights, stand,filters,heater etc..). Any idea if it's a good deal? I'll try to negotiate it down anyway, but I want to know what'd be considered a bargain. (haven't seen the condition of the tank yet)

Not a good deal... I suppose if it comes with 2 or 3 FX5s maybe worth it, but I'm in Ontario and paid $500 for complete 190 setup w/55g wet/dry sump. Sold my 130 complete for $350.
 
hold out for a better deal I got a 1 year old aga 125 gallon with ac110, fluval 405, 2 stealths and everything else for 225..800 is WAY overpriced

wow, guess it's pretty unanimous then. They decorated up the posting though. Said it was $2500 purchased, $450 in decorations, and it also came with a full setup (lights, tank, heater, filtration). But.. .. looking at the numbers you guys/girls are throwing up.

I agree.. bad deal.

Strangely, I looked at the kijiji add this morning and it went from $800 to $1200 since I spoke to her last night. So.. .. I'll keep lurking.

In my opinion, I would have a really good look at the tank, before making a commitment to purchase the tank. If they're hesitant about you looking at the tank, I'd say they're a bunch of ruddy gits and I wouldn't deal with them.

If they are going by outside dimensions, they're trying to pull the wool over your eyes and trying to sell you something it's not. Aditionally, a 130 gallon is an oddball size. Usually a manufacturer will make a 110 and then a 150 for their standard inventory size tanks. You say, a 130 gal. Hmmm! I'd do my own measuring on this one. If it measures 72" x 24" x 18" on the outside and has a glass wall thickness of 3/8", you have yourself a 110 gal. not a 130 gal. I just purchased a tank 2 days ago with the same dimmensions as you stated, made with 3/8" thick glass. But, the dimmensions you stated, are the outside dimmensions for my tank. The inside dimmensions, made my tank a 110 gal. Not a 130 gal. I paid $82.50 ($0.75 USD per gallon) just for the tank. It was really dirty, no hood, stand, lights, heater, or other accessories and had been sitting dry for 3 years.

If the tank is in excellent condition (hardly show any wear and tear on the tank, stand hood, light and other accessories). Maybe ($2.50 USD/gal. x 110 gal. = $275 USD), but no more with all the accessories you mentioned, included in the sale.

If it's in good condition, I would pay no more than ($1.50 USD/gal. x 110 gal = $165.00 USD) to ($2.00 USD/gal x 110 = $220 USD) with all of the accessories you mentioned, included in the sale.

If they ask for $400 USD that's $3.64 USD a gallon. I'd go $200 USD to $275 USD tops, and I'd hold my ground at that price. Anything more, is just too much they're asking for and to much in my opinion to pay for. Make your own decissions from there. But in my opinion, that is what I would look for and do.

Yeah make an offer tell them they can wait for the price they want but if they don't get it your always a call away and read to pick up.
