This guy's near me is selling a 180g clarity acrylic with stand for 600. Another guys for same price has a 165g glass with stand and fx5. Are either these good deals?

180 new will be around $800-900 with a stand. As long as its in good condition and not old then it's a decent price. This is in my area comparing prices.

Wouldn't consider the 165g and I'm not a fan of fx5's.

Depends how nice the tank is (age/scratches ect) and what the stand is made out of and such, but not too bad for the 180. Some people find really crazy good deals but I dont think that is too bad.

Where I live used tanks go for the price of brand new ones.

I'd never pay the same price for something used that I could spend for something new.

1) I can more easily return new items that are defective since laws cover that much better than used items; over and above commercial and merchandise laws, simple credit card transactions can be easily reversed up to a point

2) I don't know how old the used item is and the seller of a used item may not even be liable if he lies, therefore I have no way to judge how long it may last

3) the seller of something used has an incentive to hide defects, while the seller of something new has an incentive to disclose them since it can be financially liable for more than the price of the tank if it knows there are significant defects and doesn't disclose them

For me, used needs a deep discount; but that's me.

+1 I don't like paying anymore than half of the brand new retail price for something used. That brand new scratch free tank and stand is worth the extra couple hundred IMO.
