I have a pair of Jack Dempseys in my 75 gallon. They are the only fish other than some Bn plecos. They are a little skittish right now. What would be some good dithers?

Big lamp eye or beaunos Aires tetras, giant danios, silver dollars. Sd's are super flakey though and usually end up crashing into everything at the slightest movement in my experience. Danios would be good imo.

Those in the video above are Poecilia velifora (sailfin mollies), they also share habitat with Gambusia yucatana(below). Swordtails work as long as they are fast enough, and large enough not to be eaten (although swordtail fry make great snacks for JDs)

My dithers for a spawning pair are other jacks. Depending on how large your breeding pair is, expect that dither to get his butt kicked. Will need some major hiding places.

If you want your breeders to come out .... throw in a smaller male Jack ... that'll stir up some action.

What is your water temp? Setup? Enough hiding places? Got kids banging on the tank?

It's a 75 gallon tank. Right now there are two males and one female. The smaller male was pretty beat up when I got him and is still getting picked on a bit. I've got several large pieces of driftwood in the tank for them to hide by and they do. The tank sits in my office at work and it's fairly calm here. When my daughter comes in to see me she'll run up to the glass but she knows not to bang on it. Every couple hours or so someone will pop their head into my office to talk about something but it's relatively calm in here. The tank sits on a concrete foundation so there's no problem with vibrations getting to the tank like there would be in someone's living room. It's usually just me at my desk across the room from them. The temp in the tank is 73. It's a climate controlled office so there's no real temperature swings to worry about either. There's a little bit of jungle val in the back and there's anubias attached to the driftwood and dwarf water lettuce floating in the tank as well. They haven't been in there very long so I know they will calm down eventually but I just wanted to put something in there to help them stay calm.

Sounds like a real nice set up. I'd suggest trying to leave things alone for a while, let em get used to a set up ... if you want them to breed, raise the temp to 78-80.

Some of my jacks get real skittish when they get older ... and it just seems to be the temperament of some. I've had others that stay out all the time.
