hmmmm.... That design you place the 5 gallon bucket in the pond.... I have a 220 gallon Aquarium if I put a 5 gallon bucket in it seems like it would take up a lot of space... But thats just my opinion....I would prefer an external filter.... But Yes it would work...The guy that made it said he had it in his 300gallon pond....

"ill replace the media with scrubbies"

To get the best filtration with scrubbies they need to not be submerged in water...The water needs to sprinkle over the scrubbies.... This design is a submersable filter...

Rubbish, of course the scrubbies will work.
Trickle or submerged the bacteria do not care.
Food and oxygen is present in submerged media as well as wet/dry.
Maybe you meant to say they would not be as efficient submerged, which depending on conditions could still not be true.

Correct Kaiser ......... Just about any media will work.. some just work better in different ways...scrubbies, plastic spoons, plastic bottle caps, leggo toys, bio balls, lava rocks, ordinary aquatic gravel, pvc pieces.. :)

You forgot the "Little Green Army Men", which I always got a kick out of.

So you guys think the filter will do its job? I may lay it on its side with the holes in the lid. Is it important to have the holes at the bottom so it will suck up solid waste or could they be at the top?

The only thing about laying the bucket on it's side is that it could roll.....You want the bucket to sit firmly on the bottom......You could have the holes at the bottom or the top but you would have to change the design of the filter for top water inlet.... and the pump would be on the bottom of the bucket....And if you don't watch your pond the water could evaporate and the top inlet would not be sucking water through the filter (depending on your depth of the water)....Some Aquarist prefer bottom filters others like the top.... I made a little drawing for this.....I'm Just experimenting and looking...

Thanks. I think I will just do the holes at the bottom, and flip the bucket when its time to pull it out, that way the junk wont back was into the pond, the guy who wrote the directs claimed it has to be completely submerged anyway but I till think that would be a good idea. Im only using this If I cant get a hold of the media for my trash can filter.
