Well, I need some suggestions on what would be nice in a 55 gal planted tank. Also something that would get along with a 7 inch BGK and 4 inch pleco.

Im thinking about getting rid of my chinese perch. Its frustrating keeping him and its making the whole job not enjoyable.

I was thinking of a cichlid that doesnt grow too large liek maybe a green terror or something else. I dont know, I just want something that will accept pellets and krill and things like that, and also something that wont destroy plants and will get along with my BGK and pleco.

Could be a cichlid of some kind or something else. I just something more enjoyable. My LFS has been getting some pretty good fish in lately too. Any suggestions?

Thanks:)

Most ca/sa cichlids don't do well with a planted tank. They'll either eat them, or just destroy them. The only ones would be angels, discus, or some of the smaller guys like festivum, kribs, rams, apistos.....so on.

Yeah, thats the problem, most cichlids dont do good with plants. I was thinkign and african cichlid tank, but then I'd have to tear it all down. Plus the Pleco and BGK wouldnt do well in an african tank.

I also like discus but I dont know if I want to get into them quite yet. Doesnt have to be a cichlid for this tank, could be something else. Plus I know some cichlids will harrass BGK and Pleco's mercilessly.

I dont know, I feel stuck.

I just responded to another thread with this similar answer. You could go with an elephant nose, headstanders, or maybe an african butterfly. They would all do well in a planted tank, and that gives you something a little different. The only one that might give problems there is the elephant nose with the bgk, but it could go either way as I've seen them work well, and not work at all.

Cool, thanks for your time, I appreciate it. I'll keep these suggestioins in mind. I seen a few african butterflies in the store recently too. ut they seem boring because they stay pretty much motionless at the top.

I'll see, I'll keep these in mind. Im just trying to gather some options for this tank.

Leopard Ctenopoma, or a small school of Puntius denisonii.

Cool, I'll keep these in mind. But the Leopard Ctenopoma I dont think I want. It sounds like it only eats live food, plus from description it isnt very active.

I also have a 55g tank and am thinking of options to stock it. The current inhabitants do not bother my plants at all.

The current stock is:
1 Albino Bichir
3 Clown Loaches
1 Raphael Catfish
1 Syndontis Eureptus Catfish

I really would recommend the Raphael Catfish. They are very personable and interesting. Mine has been in my family for 20 years. He takes Krill out of my hands.

I would also highly recommend clown loaches. I used to think they were subpar (everyone has them), but since I picked up three I've really grown to love them. They are very inquisitive and display a lot of interesting activities. Mine like to pick at my hand when I am working inside the tank. They aren't afraid of me at all. Another good thing about the clown loaches is they are constantly eating. My tank has never been so clean! They're always digging up stuff and picking algae off my plants. They don't clean the glass though...

Have you considered Festivums? They're pretty cool. I might be getting some for my tank.

I dont know if a bichir is a good mix, my BGK and Pleco argue form time to time over terrritory and food. But it works out Ok. Since I dont want bottom dwellers, then the raphael cat is out of the question too. I dont know how Loaches act, but I seen them and raphael cats at my LFS.
