I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of foods a channel cat will accept and what to feed it. I just bought one from the LFS.

Channel's will eat pretty much anything, shrimp pellets, pieces of shrimp, beef heart, feeders, etc. they're not picky. Congrats on the pickup they're one of my favorite cats.

they will eat almost anything. Literally. When it gets big, good luck feeding your other fish. I've got an albino channel cat thats leaving my tank. I'll miss him though:(

Expect unreal growth too. Mine hit 18" in less than 2 years. It would eat a buick if it would fit in its mouth.

this is the only thing stopping me from getting one of these beautiful monsters....

try catching crayfish from a local river or stream. just look under some rocks on the banks they like to hide under them during the day! I feed lots of crayfish to my catfish!

What are ya doin with that sweet cat??? I am going to pick mine up today from a friends house its to big for his 55 so hes mine now...... hes about 16" and yes hes an albino....

If it is any constalation to anyone i've seen people catch this cat up to 38lbs. in my home state of North Carolina, and personally have caught one of 25 +lbs. Just so you know what you are getting into. I assume that these fish were very old indeed though! i think the world record is supposed to be like 58 lbs., and they have been caughty commercially over 60 lbs. that's a descent sized kitty for ya! i was thinking about just catching one to keep as a pet rather than buying them, i catch them around 6-10" on the missouri alot! i have a stone cat for 3 months now.

oh yeah, the one you bought is probably pretty small, try chunks of worm, krill, shrimp, blood worms ect. then when he's bigger crayfish, fish fillet, ect.
